Saturday, July 12, the CTC participated in an Agility Fun Day at the Merrimac Dog Club. Our instructor was the CTC’s own Dot McClenny, an accomplished agility competitor and teacher. Additionally, she brought along another CTC member, Ida Church, also skilled in agility and fly ball, to assist. The day began with a slow introduction of dogs to equipment. We started with the A- frame. With Dot and Ida on either side for instruction and support, we each coaxed our dogs up and over. We then moved on to the jumps, the tunnel, the chute, and so on.
About 11:30am we broke for a wonderful covered dish lunch, giving ourselves and our fourfooted companions a chance at some much needed rest. We resumed again at about 1:00 pm, and it was interesting to see how very much our dogs had retained from our earlier session.
As the day progressed, our dogs seemed to go from guarded caution, to confidence and outright enjoyment of their accomplishments. Everyone from Westies to Scotties, Jack Russell to Lakeland, Boston to Golden Retriever and Mixed Breed, seemed to truly enjoy the day. Our sincere thanks to Dot McClenny for such a fabulous introduction to the wonderful sport of agility.
